Vladimir Khotinenko (b. 1952) established his reputation as a filmmaker (artistic design, acting, and directing) at the studios in Ekaterinburg (formerly Sverdlovsk) before moving to Moscow, where he now also teaches directing at the State Institute for Filmmaking (VGIK). Among his major films are Mirror for a Hero (1987), A Patriotic Comedy (1992), Makarov (1993), and The Muslim (1995). His latest film, Strastnoi bul'var [Boulevard of Passion], premiered in at the 1999 Moscow Film Festival.

Aleksandr Mitta (b. 1933; pseudonym of Aleksandr Rabinovich) graduated from Mikhail Romm's Master Classes in directing at the State Institute for Filmmaking (VGIK) in 1960. Currently teaches filmmaking in Hamburg, as well as Advanced Courses for Scriptwriters and Directors in Moscow. Among his highly successful films are My Friend, Kol'ka (1961), The Doorbell's Ringing (1965), Flight Crew (1979), and A Step (1988).
